SHAO Astrophysics Colloquium

Title: Star formation quenching and mass assembly of galaxies

Speaker: Xu Kong (USTC)

Time 3:00pm, Nov. 23 (Thursday)

Location: Lecture Hall, 3rd floor

Abstract: Galaxies exhibit a bimodal distribution in the color-magnitude space with a narrow "red sequence" populated by mostly early-type galaxies and a broad "blue cloud" containing star-forming objects. In this talk, based on multi-wavelength image and IFU data, I will talk about our recent work to understand why and how galaxies stop their star formation activities and then move from the "blue cloud" to the "red sequence", how galaxy mass assembly mode depends on stellar mass?
